22 of 24 people found the following review helpful Very good multimedia laptop with couple shortcomings, October 22, 2011 By This review is from: HP Pavilion dv7-6199us Entertainment PC - Gray (Personal Computers) This is a very powerful multimedia PC. It does everything well. Runs cool. Has a big high resolution 1600x900 screen. Nice brushed aluminum finish. However, being an owner of an Apple MacBook Pro, I find there are a few glaring flaws with this HP.
One, this is supposed to be a multimedia laptop where you are supposed to be able to wirelessly project what's on the display to an HD TV. So it follows that you should be able to use it in a darkened room. In which case why is the keyboard not backlit?
Two, the display has a bluish color cast, and contrast is on the low side. This can be fixed by using a color calibrator like Spyder3. This really shouldn't happen because a correct color profile could've been included with the system.
Three, The lid hinge is too tight, making it difficult to lift the display with only one hand because the laptop bottom would just move around. Also, there is no thumb catch on the lid or the bottom so every time you open the... Read more
15 of 17 people found the following review helpful Fantastic, November 2, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: HP Pavilion dv7-6199us Entertainment PC - Gray (Personal Computers) Overall a great computer. I've spent some time getting used to it and so far its a great system. Surprised overall at the speed in which it is operating, and am very pleased with the results. This laptop was a bit larger than I anticipated, and is pretty hefty to boot(metal construction/frame). Its fast, powerful, and is handling any program that I've thrown at it thus far. I was skeptical as I have mainly been using Dell in the past and I'm finding this to be an excellent step up, and I feel that I got well more than my money's worth on this computer.
One note, this system has Norton pre-installed, and it is without a doubt useless. Try to get rid of it, and replace it with Security Essentials as soon as you get it.
5 of 6 people found the following review helpful Problem with shutting down, November 30, 2011 By Paul Young "zhl00" (Cincinnati, OH USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: HP Pavilion dv7-6199us Entertainment PC - Gray (Personal Computers) This is the 3rd computer I received from HP within 2 months. I bought HP dv7-6135 initially. It had issue with shutting down and sleep mode. They changed to another one with same model. Same thing happened. The computer was even shipped to HP service. It occured the next day after the product returned to me. Finally I changed to this model. It still has the same issue. Sometimes the computer has to be manually shut down. I got blue screen warning twice already over short period of time. The HP dv pavilion computer I bought two years ago never has this kind of issue and has been running well. It appears to me this is a systemic issue in HP computers. Anybody has same problem?
